Domitek Joins Worcester’s Downtown Development

Upon completion, the City Square project is anticipated to create more than 2.2 million square feet of commercial, medical, retail, entertainment, and residential space. Worcester is experiencing vibrant growth and the City Square development project is at the heart of it. On Monday May 1, 2017, Domitek will be opening its doors at its new headquarters in downtown Worcester, Massachusetts. “Worcester is on the move, and it’s important that we do our part to help contribute to the success of this new development. With all the businesses moving downtown, it’s a perfect opportunity for Domitek to leverage its skills and technical expertise to help businesses with their IT and communication needs,” stated Founder and CEO, Libis Bueno.

In 2014 the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce voted Domitek, Small Business of the Year. Shortly after, Domitek was awarded the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics from the Better Business Bureau. The Channel Company also honored Domitek by acknowledging them as an industry leader by adding them to their Next-Gen 250 List and the MSP 500 List for 2016 and 2017.

These annual lists recognize standout IT solution providers who have successfully transformed their businesses to meet the demands of the emerging technologies such as cloud computing and VoIP. “The solution providers on these lists are ahead of the curve when it comes to working with emerging technologies and building successful practice areas around them, said Robert Faletra, CEO of the Channel Company.”

Domitek is awarded 2014 Small Business of the year!

Awards to be presented at the Chamber’s May Business After Hours networking event

Worcester, Massachusetts—The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, with presenting sponsor Fidelity Bank, is pleased to announce the winners of its 2014 Richard B. Kennedy Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Family-Owned Business of the Year, and Chamber Advocate of the Year. The awards will be presented on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 4 p.m. The Haven Country Club (formerly the Mount Pleasant Country Club) prior to the Chamber’s monthly networking event, Business After Hours, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. It will also include a presentation of the Chamber’s annual Silver Hammer Award.

Domitek is well positioned for the future!

After spending the last six-years in a small office at 100 Grove Street, Domitek has moved to its new location at 400 Grove Street in Worcester where they recently held an Open House Reception! During the Open House, Domitek Founder and CTO, Libis Bueno and the President and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Tim Murray, successfully facilitated the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of clients, colleague’s, friends and family.

In response to increased client needs and a demand for reliable IT services, Domitek recently expanded its workforce and value proposition by adding new skilled technicians. The new technicians have been sourced locally through community and internship feeder programs such as Youth Works, Salter College, Quinsigamond Community College, and Worcester Technical High School. Last year, Domitek owner and CEO, Libis Bueno, was at a basketball court in the south side of Worcester. A group of kids were playing ball, and all commented on Libis’ car. “How did you get THAT!?” they wanted to know. Libis shared with them his story, and how he grew up in financially challenging conditions. He was determined to live a better life, and realized that the best way to it was through education. He decided that he would go to college– a huge undertaking considering the financial barriers that would lie ahead. Libis completed college, and continuing with his plan to become a business owner, opened the doors of Domitek.

Meeting the kids that day reminded Libis of his roots, and he couldn’t stop thinking that he could encourage these young people, who like him, have great dreams and goals, but don't have the financial or family support that makes those goals easily attainable.

Domitek's "Investing in our future" contest was opened this past spring to Worcester Public School students entering 8th and 9th grade this fall. Students from around the city entered the contest by writing an essay, and obtaining a reference from a teacher or guidance counselor.

Domitek. provides information-technology support to small- and medium-sized businesses. The 8-year-old company, at 100 Grove St. in Worcester, has grown by 80 percent over the past two years, according to Mr. Bueno. It has six employees. Mr. Bueno, 42, emigrated from the Dominican Republic as a teenager to Worcester, where he graduated from South High Community School and later attended New England Tech in Warwick, R.I. The name "Domitek" is inspired by Mr. Bueno's Dominican heritage, and the firm's message, which he says is: "We dominate technology."

You describe your company's philosophy as "investing in the future." How are you doing that?

"One of things we've been doing is investing in youth. Last year I came across some youths in the city who asked me how I got the vehicle I was driving. I told them I went to college, I have a computer science degree, I own a business. They were really intrigued about technology. I said, you can also own this vehicle, if you go to school and get an education. They said to me they didn't have the tools to be able to do that. I realized I could buy them a laptop and whatnot, but what I ended up doing was challenge them to write an essay on why they should get a laptop. It dawned on me that everyone is born with a hidden talent that just needs to be exposed."

Why does it make sense for today's small businesses to outsource their support services?

"It's beneficial to outsource because they can get it done right. They can concentrate on their core business and improve their bottom line and leave the IT to the IT pro. This is where Domitek can be a great asset to many companies. We help with planning, disaster recovery and security.

We provide day-to-day help-desk assistance, where we help them with their computer needs and servers and security. We also provide cloud solutions powered by Microsoft. We're a Microsoft Partner and Microsoft Small Business Specialist, which means that we specialize in Microsoft technology. We help our clients with their planning, their disaster recovery. We insure that their data is always secure and not compromised."

What is the worst crash you've been called on to fix?

"There have been quite a few. We had a client who had an employee leave the company and smashed the computer into the floor. We had to recover the data, and we helped them design not only a disaster recovery (system), but also an employee exit strategy:

What are the things you want to do before you let go an employee?

Make sure the equipment is out of their reach, make sure the data is backed up, and so forth.

Nowadays there are a lot of viruses out there. People download a lot of free software. My philosophy has always been, on the Internet anything that claims to be free always has a price attached to it — and that is your data and your security. People click on a link they think is legit, and it downloads a program that hijacks your computer and you have to pay ransom money to get your computer freed up. One of them is called the FBI virus. That's the No. 1 virus out there. You get a screen that says the FBI has been monitoring your computer, and at this point your computer has been locked down (and) you need to pay X amount of dollars. This is coming from overseas. The United States has been targeted quite a bit. The lack of education among people using their technology is leading to all the security issues we are facing nowadays."

Are there some tips you can offer readers to prevent computer disasters before they happen?

"One of the main things people can do is use common sense when using the computer. The analogy I use is, the computer is just like a knife: When you grab a knife in your hand, you have to be cautious how you use it, because you can cut your hand. Same thing with the computer: Using it the wrong way can lead to disaster, whether it's your data being stolen or some other problem. Try to be vigilant, keep your computer up to date, and have a fully paid anti-virus subscription. If you own a business, make sure you have a fire wall in place. Make sure people aren't bringing in USB drives and plugging them into the computer. Have some sort of data policy. Be vigilant and use some common sense."
